Holland vs Mexico World Cup Free Pick

by Football XI Editorial | Posted on Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

The Dutch were able to get a couple of late goals thanks to some strong substitutes in their final group game against Chile to claim first place in Group B and a perfect 3-0-0 record. This win allowed Holland to avoid Brazil in the round of a 16 and set up a game with Mexico who finished with 7 points and only allowed their first goal of the tournament late last game against Croatia when the win was already confirmed.

The oddsmakers have this game much closer than the Brazil vs Chile game played the day before.

Holland vs Mexico Odds

These odds were found from Bet365.com. Here are the 1×2 odds:

  • Holland 2.15
  • Draw 3.40
  • Mexico 3.80

The Dutch are favourites as expected, but they are less than 50% to win the game in regulation according to the odds.

Here are the odds to advance to the quarterfinals:

  • Holland 1.50
  • Mexico 2.50

Now on to the prediction for the game. For more free World Cup picks you should check out Bet364.org, where they have added several picks throughout the tournament.

Free Pick

I like the Dutch to win this game in regulation. Their offense doesn’t need a lot of chances to score goals and though I expect the Mexicans to be strong defensively Holland will surely score with van Persie back and Robben in great form. Memphis Depay has also been a force off of the bench, so even if the game is tied late the Dutch seem to pick up their game in the final 20 minutes.

They were down in their games to both the Spanish and Australians, but were able to come out for huge second halfs. This was the same against Chile where Holland waited until late to score their two goals and win the game.

Mexico played well against Brazil, but I personally don’t think Brazil is as strong as everyone is saying this year. I believe that Robben, van Persie and company will be much harder to stop than Neymar, Oscar, Fred and Hulk.

I expect Holland to be able to find a way to score at least 2 against the Mexicans and that should be enough if Holland stay strong defensively and not give up any penalties, which they did in the first two games. The Chilean fans called for many more in the past game, but although the Dutch still challenge hard in the box they do manage to get the ball first every time. So it will depend on if the referee likes giving penalties or not that could be a huge factor in this game.

If you eliminate the two penalties then the Dutch, like Mexico have only given up 1 goal as well. They are stronger defensively than given credit for and I like them to win this game in regulation.

My Play: Holland 2.15 in regulation.
